As always, there are a lot of fun, free, informative, engaging programs happening at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library that are designed for elementary school age children.

Ongoing Weekly Programs:

Mondays at 4 p.m. – “Youth Chess Club.” – Play or learn the game of chess. All levels of experience welcome and all equipment is provided!

Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3-5 p.m. – “Homework Help.” – Teen volunteers are here to help you with a homework problem.

Thursdays at 4 p.m. – “Brain Games.” – Play or learn the game of chess or other board games.

Fridays at 3:30 p.m. – “Chinese Storytime.” – Introduction to Mandarin in a fun format.

1st and 3rd Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. – “Ruff! Ruff! Reading with Finnegan.” – Children can come practice their reading skills with Finnegan the library dog.  He just loves to hear stories!

 SRFOL sponsored Thursday Afternoon Kids’ Programs (recommended for ages 4-11):

November:

November events focus on food and nutrition to help us get ready for the Thanksgiving feast!

November 21 at 3 p.m. – “Growing Food Wild Style” with Pacific Animal Productions.  Be surprised by all the “wild” help it takes to grow our food and see live animals.


December:

December events focus on magic and sweets to help us get ready for holiday traditions and fun!

December 5 at 3 p.m. – “Magic Show” with Alakazam.  Come laugh and be amazed by this magical show!

December 12 at 3 p.m. – “Making a Gingerbread House.”  This is a limited attendance event.  Please line up and tickets will be handed out.

Sneak Peek of 2014 Events:

January 16 at 3 p.m. – “Whale Is Stuck and The Paper Bag Princess” with Literature Comes to Life.  Celebrate whale watching season by re-enacting Whale Is Stuck and then have the opportunity to dress up as a princess or a dragon for a performance of The Paper Bag Princess.

January 30 at 3 p.m. – “A Dragon’s Tale” with the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum.  Experience Chinese New Year with a presentation of interactive storytelling.  Learn about dragons and how the Chinese zodiac came to be!”
