Scripps Poway Eyecare at Dingeman Elementary
Our Dingeman 4th and 5th graders were treated to an informative presentation by Dr. Wan of Scripps Poway Eyecare.  Dr. Wan discussed the use of electronic devices and the effects they can have on our eyesight.  The students learned what is a safe amount of time to use electronic devices, and how much distance to put between the device and their eyes.  He also discussed photoreceptors and the anatomy of the eye so the children understand how important eye health is. To make the assembly not just about learning, but also about fun, he quizzed the students and gave away ... read full article

Audits Help Our School Become Greener
3rd graders in Mrs Church’s class have been busy working with San Diego Unified School District's Recycling and Waste Management Department to complete a trash and recycling audit for our school! It was important to the children and the school to make sure we are doing a good job separating out trash and recycling, especially as we are the school districts ‘model recycling school’.  We are also taking part in the National Wildlife Federation's Eco Schools Award, and the Green Team must complete a number of reviews and implementations in order to win this coveted award.   This Eco School ... read full article

Delivering a Message of Music to Others
10 year old Malvyn Lai from Mrs Lee’s 4 th grade class wowed the entire school during a recent Tiger Rally with his amazing piano skills. The performance highlighted Malvyn’s participation in the Super Dentists Talent Competition which had a 1 st place prize of $10,000 for the winner's school.  Malvyn easily made the top 10 but didn’t quite get enough votes during online voting but we are VERY proud of him, not only for his musical ability but also his school spirit. Malvyn began playing piano at age 4 when his feet didn’t even reach the piano pedals! He ... read full article
