3rd graders in Mrs Church’s class have been busy working with San Diego Unified School District's Recycling and Waste Management Department to complete a trash and recycling audit for our school! It was important to the children and the school to make sure we are doing a good job separating out trash and recycling, especially as we are the school districts ‘model recycling school’.  We are also taking part in the National Wildlife Federation's Eco Schools Award, and the Green Team must complete a number of reviews and implementations in order to win this coveted award.  This Eco School program is a perfect match for our Green Team as we are always trying to find solutions to environmental issues. By doing the audit we discovered a number of problem areas which the Green Team are tackling through task force teams who created action plans and solutions for our major issues. Through our monthly Tiger Rallies, short skits in each Kindergarten class, lunch area posters, and re-positioning our recycling bins in more visible and equitable locations the team is confident we can further improve our recycling efforts.

Our motto "Kids Can Make a Difference" really means a lot to this group of 3rd graders and they are proud to be part of the solution to make our school and the world a better place!
