10 year old Malvyn Lai from Mrs Lee’s 4th grade class wowed the entire school during a recent Tiger Rally with his amazing piano skills. The performance highlighted Malvyn’s participation in the Super Dentists Talent Competition which had a 1st place prize of $10,000 for the winner's school.  Malvyn easily made the top 10 but didn’t quite get enough votes during online voting but we are VERY proud of him, not only for his musical ability but also his school spirit.

Malvyn began playing piano at age 4 when his feet didn’t even reach the piano pedals! He plays everything from Chopin to Beethoven, but Mozart is his favorite because of how the music makes him feel.

Malvyn’s popularity and talent cannot be contained in Scripps Ranch and is spreading throughout the country and even abroad! This young pianist has already performed at the renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City six times and has received countless awards, including the grand prize for the 2015 International Concerto Competition at the American Fine Arts Festival. He also has been featured recently on Fox 5 News.  Over the summer Malvyn will travel to Russia with full scholarship, to perform with the Kostroma Symphony and has also been invited to play in Long Island, New York in November.  Click here to see Malvyn play Frédéric Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu in C-sharp minor, Op. 66.

“My goal is actually to become a concert player, go to music school and graduate from there,” said Malvyn and we think he has every chance of making that dream come true.

Way to go Malvyn!
